I’m not a huge fan of going to the dentist, in fact there might be something a bit odd about me if I was. I have my twice yearly check ups and the hygienist pokes around my gums with sharp implements. I even pay for the privilege now that NHS dentists are as scarce as genuine Arthurian relics these days. However, that’s enough dental work for my liking. I don’t have Tom Cruise style teeth, but they’re straight enough and white enough for me. When I was in my teens I once (in a moment of madness) agreed to have a filling without a local anaesthetic and ever since then I’ve found going to the dentist to deeply uncomfortable. I still go, avoiding something important just because it’s unpleasant wouldn’t be wise. If I can keep my visits to that big reclining chair short and seldom, then I’ll be a happy bunny.
