I’ve been reading (and re-reading) Stephen King’s Dark Tower series since around the time volume 3 ‘The Wastelands’ was released. At the time Mr. King was firmly pigeon-holed as a horror writer and most places didn’t stock them, so they felt like a little secret between the author and a select number off his readers.
Now, years later and the series has been completed and King has released many more books that aren’t just in the horror/thriller genres. None of these have successfully captured my interest as well as the dimension hopping Western of Mid World have but maybe due to their success, The Dark Tower’s conclusion finally saw the light of day.
I’ve seen plenty of web sites and forums where people have debated the possibility of a Dark Tower movie. To be honest, I don’t see the point. If you want to enjoy the story, read the books. They are out there. It’s not as if they need to be condensed into two hour chunks for an audience with a short attention span who may/may not buy the commemorative branded lunch box afterwards. When I want to go back to The Tower I just open the book and follow the man in black across to desert.
